Mosquitos
Josiah Ritchey, Rentokil-Terminix
Mosquitoes are increasing in abundance across many parts of the United States and, as pest control professionals, our efforts to control mosquitoes and the diseases they vector are most likely to be successful from a multi-pronged approach (IMM, or Integrated Mosquito Management). This talk will cover recently developed methods for controlling mosquitoes specific to Utah, with emphasis on techniques that can be used to supplement traditional perimeter spraying practices. Larvicidal treatments, oviposition & host-seeking traps, and habitat management all have a part to play in an effective IMM program; however, understanding when, where, and how to deploy each of these tools is critical to achieve successful outcomes, as well as high customer satisfaction. Additionally, new technologies for actively repelling mosquitoes show promise and may merit consideration for specific sensitive areas (e.g., patios, yards, and other hard-to-treat locations).

Small Flies
Mike Goza, PestWest
After visiting dead animals, feces, manure, raw garbage, sewers, floor drains, and biofilms, filth-flying infections enter restaurants and regurgitate digestive fluids, defecate, and shed bodily particles where they feed and rest. Filth flies contaminate food storages, food preparation surfaces, food handling, food utensils, foods served, and foods consumed by customers. As a result, filth flies contaminate health inspections, customer presence, social media reviews, reputations, revenue, and convert restaurants into pestaurants.
